When Anxiety Meets Faith
I have suffered from chronic anxiety disorder since I was a small child. Every traumatizing experience added more and more fear and anxiety into my life.
Until one day, while chatting with a past client who has now become a close colleague, I heard her say:
“Thank You, Jesus.”
I remember responding, “I like that,” and she briefly explained how those three simple words helped carry her through her days.
Now, I say them every single day.
All day.
For so long, I lived consumed by worry and anxiety. No medicine. No distraction. No amount of nicotine could truly calm what was happening inside of me.
But somehow… this small yet powerful exercise did.
When my teenager first started driving, my anxiety was unbearable. Every drift toward a line, every hesitation, every small mistake sent my heart racing. I was probably giving her more anxiety because of my own fear.
So I started saying it out loud.
“Thank You, Jesus.”
And almost instantly…
Peace.
No racing heartbeat.
No panic.
No feeling like I was about to have a heart attack.
Just peace.
Anxiety is a burden we were never meant to carry alone. It weighs us down mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and even physically. It keeps us from reaching our full potential in our work, our relationships, and our faith.
Jesus died so we would not have to carry every burden by ourselves.
So the next time fear, anxiety, anger, sadness, or any heavy emotion starts to consume you, try this:
Close your eyes.
Picture the emotion.
Imagine yourself handing it over to the Lord.
Then simply say:
“Thank You, Lord.”
And sit in the relief that follows.
That is the power of Faith.
